The mock book cover for Asako Yuzuki’s latest novel, “Butter.” - a mockumentary that explores the intricate themes of toxic femininity, patriarchal pressures, and the stereotypes that women continue to confront in contemporary society.

In this cover, I present an image of a sliced butter cube, metaphorically revealing a look into the layers of a woman’s life - her past, her present, and her innermost thoughts. This piece delves into the true essence of her being, uncovering the real layers beneath the surface. This is a personal project, not a commissioned work.

︎︎ Option 1:  The woman’s face is portraited in profile with abstract render. This dynamic Z composition is well suggested by the direction of the knife and the placement of the butter cube.

︎︎ Option 2: In this option, the woman’s portrait is depicted with facial expression to evoke a connection with the audience. The typography is placed in vertical format, suggesting a feature of Japanese aesthetic in contemporary way.
